What do Pediatric Audiologists do?

Pediatric Audiologists specialize in diagnosing and managing hearing, balance, and related disorders in children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. Understanding that children do not have the same hearing needs as adults, pediatric audiologists use a variety of techniques to get the full picture of a child's hearing, recommend the best treatment options, and monitor outcomes.

We work closely with other professionals such as primary care providers, ENTs, speech and occupational therapists, psychologists, teachers, and others to provide comprehensive care.

Why Early Hearing Care is So Important

Children with untreated hearing difficulties often fall behind their peers in speech and language development, cognition, and social skills. However, early detection of hearing problems and appropriate intervention often leads to development similar to peers with typical hearing.

  • Tinnitus and Hyperacusis
  • Conductive, Mixed, and Sensorineural Hearing Loss
  • Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)
  • Auditory Processing Deficits

We also have experience evaluating hearing for children with:

  • Autism
  • Congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV) Infection
  • Cleft Lip and Palate
  • Microtia and Atresia
  • Down Syndrome
  • Other syndromes associated with hearing difficulties such as CHARGE, Noonan, Waardenburg, and Williams
